*Running a zoo is a hard business!* New animals are coming in on trucks, and you need to organize them into enclosures as they come in. No one wants to see a disorganized zoo, after all!
[green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment625df1cf6075700
NekonyancerIn *[blue]Zooloretto,[/blue]* players will try to fill their zoo enclosures with *exactly* enough animals to score the most points.
They can also place snack stalls, gain money, and use that money to expand their zoo or perform logistic tasks!2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment625df1cf6075700
NekonyancerOn your turn, you can perform *one* of three possible actions:
*- Draw a tile and place it on a truck.*
*- Claim a truck and all the tiles on it.*
*- Perform a money action.*3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment625df1cf6075700
NekonyancerLet's learn about the first action: drawing a tile.
*Go ahead and click on [blue]"Draw a tile"[/blue] at the top!*4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment625df1cf6075710drawtile 2
NekonyancerYou drew a *[blue]camel.[/blue]* Isn't it cute?
This is one of *five* different animal species. There are more species in games with more players though!
Now you have to place the camel on one of [red]*three differently sized trucks.*[/red]1tile_0_3_C_0_0625df1da5c85700wagon_1 6 wagon_2 6 wagon_3 6 tile_0_3_C_0_0 7
Nekonyancer*Click here. Then click on "Place tile" at the top!*2wagon_1_2625df1da5c85710wagon_1_2 16
NekonyancerIt's your opponent's turn now, and they drew a con... *[blue]COIN![/blue]* Yes, it's a coin! No, it doesn't look like anything else in particular. *Stop laughing!*
Our opponent now has to place it.1tile_0_99_Coin_0_0625df1f600a6a00tile_0_99_Coin_0_0 7
NekonyancerOur turn again.
*Draw another tile!*1drawtile625df1f86c08d10
NekonyancerIt's a [blue]*flamingo.*[/blue]
*Let's place it over here!*1wagon_2_1625df1ff4567410wagon_2_1 16
Nekonyancer*[blue]This truck[/blue]* is full now. I think we should take it.
[green][tip] We didn't have to wait for the truck to be full. You can take any truck as long as it has at least one tile on it.[/green]
*Click on the truck to select it. Then click on "Take Wagon" at the top!*1wagon_1625df20948fd310wagon_1 7
NekonyancerGreat! Next, we have to place the animals.
Our zoo starts with *three* enclosures that the animals can be placed into. Each enclosure can only take *one kind of animal,* so our leopard and camel can't be BFFs, unfortunately. :(
We'll have to put them in different enclosures.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment625df216cdf0d00cell_1_1_2 17 cell_1_2_2 18 cell_1_3_3 19
NekonyancerLet's place the camel first.
*Click on the camel. Then click on the specified enclosure to place it!*2playername_2625df216cdf0d11tile_0_3_C_1_2 17 cell_1_2_1 18
Nekonyancer[red]*Great!*[/red]
*Next, click on the leopard. Then click on the specified enclosure.*1playername_2625df21adbd8b11tile_0_50_L_1_1 17 cell_1_1_1 18
NekonyancerNext, look at the bottom of the leopard's enclosure! [red]*It says "8/5," and there are two coins there too.*[/red] This shows what we'll get for filling the enclosure.
- If the enclosure is completely full, we'll get the full value: *8 points and 2 coins!*
- If the enclosure is full except for 1 slot, we'll get the lesser value: *5 points and no coins!*1cell_1_1_5625df21d1069500
NekonyancerNote that there are five slots in this leopard enclosure. So what happens if you get a *sixth* leopard? Well, we'll have 2 options:
- start filling ANOTHER enclosure with leopards.
- place the leopard in our *barn*.2tile_1_50_L_1_1625df21d1069500tile_1_50_L_1_1 6 cell_1_1_2 6 cell_1_1_3 6 cell_1_1_4 6 cell_1_1_5 6
Nekonyancer*The barn is the house on your zoo board.* I know, it doesn't look like a barn. Hush.
The barn is where we will place any tiles that we can't place anywhere else. Each type of tile in the barn will be worth *-2 points* at the end of the game, so it's best not to take unplaceable animals if we can help it!3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment625df21d1069500
NekonyancerBefore we go on, please note that each enclosure has different victory point numbers.
*Click on "Confirm Arrangement" at the top!*4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment625df21d1069510
Nekonyancer[green]*Okay!*[/green]
The coin in the truck went into our inventory automatically, up here. We started the game with *2*, so now we have *3* coins.1money_1625df21f06f8900
NekonyancerNow that we've chosen a truck, we are *out of this round.* Our opponent will continue taking turns until he chooses his own truck.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment625df21f06f8900
NekonyancerOur opponent drew a [blue]*male*[/blue] kangaroo from the pile. There are males and females for every animal. If you get a male and a female in the same enclosure, they will immediately produce a *baby*, which will take up another slot in the enclosure.1tile_0_41_KM_0_0625df225a002700tile_0_41_KM_0_0 7
NekonyancerThis flamingo is *NOT* female. Females are *specifically marked* as female, just as males are marked as male. Don't ask me why most animals have no genders. Maybe they have transcended past binary gender-normative ideas. Or maybe they were all "fixed." I dunno.
Also, all gendered animals in this game are apparently *monogamous* and *mate for life,* so you can't breed one male with two females!2tile_0_28_F_2_1625df225a002700tile_0_28_F_2_1 7
NekonyancerNow our opponent drew a *[blue]vending stall*[/blue]. There are four types. This one sells popcorn.
Each *unique* stall in your zoo is worth *2 points* at the end of the game!
1tile_0_110_StallD_0_0625df22a720d200tile_0_110_StallD_0_0 7
NekonyancerStalls are put on [blue]*these slots*[/blue]. As you can see, there are only four available on your farm right now.
!!! Just like with animals, if you get a stall that you don't have room for, it will go into your *barn,* possibly deducting 2 points from your final score! !!!2cell_1_6_1625df22a720d200cell_1_6_1 7 cell_1_6_2 7 cell_1_6_3 7 cell_1_6_4 7
NekonyancerStalls also help their adjacent enclosures a little bit.
If an enclosure is *NOT full enough* to get one of the listed point rewards but has a connected stall, the player will get *1 point* for each animal in the enclosure.3cell_1_6_3625df22a720d200
NekonyancerFor example, [blue]this enclosure has only one camel right now.[/blue] If we ended the game and it still had only one camel, we would score no points.
If it had a connected stall, we would get 1 point (for 1 camel), plus the stall's own value of 2 points.4tile_1_3_C_2_1625df22a720d200tile_1_3_C_2_1 7
NekonyancerOur opponent has now chosen a truck. Once he has arranged the tiles in his zoo, the [blue]last truck[/blue] will be discarded, and we'll begin a new round!1wagon_2625df22e8267500tile_0_41_KM_3_1 7
NekonyancerWe're going to fast forward for a bit now...1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment625df2348f88300
NekonyancerAlright. So we've learned about *drawing tiles* and *taking trucks.* The last option you have for your turn is a *money action.*
There are three different money actions with three different costs:
*1. Remodel (1 coin.)*
*2. Purchase/discard a tile (2 coins.)*
*3. Expand the zoo (3 coins.)*1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment625df2fdc29ac00
NekonyancerWhen you *remodel* (for one coin), you can either:
- move one animal/stall from your barn to an enclosure/viable stall location.
- Switch all the animals in two enclosures with each other.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment625df2fdc29ac00
NekonyancerWhen you *purchase/discard a tile* (for 2 coins), you can either:
- Discard a tile from your barn. Both coins go back to the bank.
- Buy a tile in someone else's barn and add it to your zoo. They cannot refuse this purchase. 1 of the coins goes to your opponent, and the other goes to the bank.3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment625df2fdc29ac00
NekonyancerWhen you *expand your zoo* (for 3 coins), you... well, that's it. You expand your zoo.
Why don't we try it now?
*Click on "Expand the Zoo" at the top!*4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment625df2fdc29ac10
Nekonyancer*[red]Check it out![/red]* This part of our board flipped over to reveal *another* enclosure, complete with another stall location!1cell_1_4_3625df32527dc000
NekonyancerPlay will continue as you've seen. Players will draw tiles, place them on trucks, and then take trucks, placing the tiles in their zoos. They can use coins to expand their zoos or buy, discard, or move tiles.
*So how does the game end?*2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment625df32527dc000
NekonyancerAll the tiles come from these stacks over here. One stack is marked as *[blue]the final stack, with a purple disc on top.[/blue]*
Eventually, all the other stacks will be exhausted and a player will have to draw from this final stack. At the end of that round, the game will end, and players will count up points!
3disk625df32527dc000disk 7
Nekonyancer*Point breakdown:*
- Full enclosures (big number)
- Almost full enclosures (small number)
- 2 points per unique stall.
- 1 point per animal in an enclosure *IF* it has a connected stall *AND* the player will not receive full/almost-full enclosure points.
- Minus 2 points per type of tile in their barn.
[blue]*The player with the most points wins, with extra coins as the tiebreaker!*[/blue]4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment625df32527dc000
