Since it's just a variant, I was thinking about adding an option of banning possibly all the cards you want. I think this would add a lot of flexibility for the players.
Cards that need taking care foremost IMO:
1) Podesta of Venice
2) Disabling Byzantine Victory in AoR (so you can play the map the way you want, but disable that victory condition)
3) I see it as a possibility of watching all the cards and disabling some of them (e.g. maybe someone will want to play "no crusade" variant or something :D ) as an ultimate option (so you see all cards like on the "map cards" info button).
