The opposition team was able to take extra time during guessing rounds by validating and then unvalidating. The team did this consistently to take 10+ minutes to make their guesses and avoid being kicked for inactivity.
Timer should not reset when you validate and invalidate -

Yes - you can even see the opposing team discussing it in the chat if you review the chat logs. Given this is a deliberate exploit of a bug to cheat (by gaining extra time to guess) they should at least get a warning.
