Glitch236Cribbage is a two-player card game. The object of the game is to be the first player to score 121 points. As soon as a player scores 121 points, the game ends immediately.1playertables001myhand_wrap 1
Glitch236The cribbage board is how we keep score of the points. Your front peg marks your current score.
You are red.2board61b21d5d3b01801
Glitch236A game of Cribbage is played through a series of hands. A hand of Cribbage is broken up into three phases:
Phase 1: Deal, discard, and cut the deck
Phase 2: Play your hand against your opponent
Phase 3: Score your hands individually, and score the crib3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment61b21d5d3b01800
Glitch236Phase 1:
The dealer deals each player 6 cards. Each player must discard 2 of these cards into the "crib." The crib is an extra hand that belongs to the dealer. This extra hand stays face-down until it is scored in Phase 3.
Click on the 4 and the 8 to discard them into your opponent's crib.1myhand61b21d67b1ab710
Glitch236The final part of Phase 1 is to randomly pick a "cut card" from the deck. The non-dealing player picks the card. This card will become part of each player's hand in Phase 3.
Choose the indicated cut card from the face-down deck. Then, the hand will move on to Phase 2.1deckContainer61b21d6ae40f210fullDeck_item_20 1
Glitch236The cut card was the King of Clubs.
You are now ready to begin playing Phase 2 of the Cribbage hand.1playertables61b21d6fd77ae00cutCard 1
Glitch236In Phase 2, players take turns laying cards, and add together their values into a running total. This running total is called the "Count." You can see the Count above the cut card. It is currently 0, because no one has played a card yet.2playertables61b21d6fd77ae01countSpace 1
Glitch236Because you did not deal, you must lay the first card.
Click on the King of Hearts from your hand to play it.3myhand61b21d6fd77ae10myhand_item_36 1
Glitch236In Cribbage, face cards are worth 10, and Aces are worth 1. All other cards are worth their face value.
Since you just played a King, the Count is now 10. Let's see what your opponent plays.1playertables61b21d7406c7c00countSpace 1 playertablecard_85609320_item_36 1
Glitch236You opponent has now played a Queen, and the Count becomes 20.
The Count can never go above 31. If you don't have any cards you can play, you must tell your opponent "Go," and they score a point. If you make the Count equal exactly 31, you score 2 points. Let's see how that works.1playertables61b21d76f0e3f01countSpace 1
Glitch236Click on your Ace to play it. This will bring the Count to 21. 2myhand_wrap61b21d76f22cf11myhand_item_9 1
Glitch236Your opponent played a 10, bringing the Count to 31. This scores them 2 points on the Cribbage board below.
Because you cannot go over 31, the count is reset to 0. It is your turn to play again, because your opponent made the 31.2playertables61b21d7c3d90200
Glitch236Click on the 3 to play it. The new Count will then become 3.3myhand61b21d7c3e61511myhand_item_2 1
Glitch236You only have one card left in your hand, and it will not bring the count above 31, so you must play it.
Click on the 2 to play it. The Count will then be 14.1myhand_wrap61b21d86744b011myhand_item_16 1
Glitch236You opponent plays a 5, bringing the Count to 19.
Because they played the "Last Card" of the hand, they also score 1 point on the Cribbage board, below.1playertables61b21d8ad156900
Glitch236There are other ways to score points while playing cards during Phase 2. This is called "pegging."2playertables61b21d8ad156900
Glitch236Phase 2 Scoring
1. Playing a card that makes the Count 15
2. Making a pair, three, or four of a kind. These cards must be played sequentially, with no other cards in between.
3. Making a run of three or more cards. These cards must be played sequentially, with no other cards in between. However, they do not need to be played in numerical order. Playing 4, 6, 5 counts as a run. 4, 6, A, 5 does not.3playertables61b21d8ad156900
Glitch236Now that we are done playing our hands, we move on to Phase 3: Scoring our hands individually, and scoring the crib.
The website does this for your automatically, but it is good to know how hands are scored, because this will help you decide what to discard in Phase 1.4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment61b21d8ad156900
Glitch236Hands score points for the following elements:
1. Groups of cards that add up to 15 (In this hand, K, 2, 3)
2. Pairs, three of a kind, or four of a kind (K, K - remember, the cut card is one of your cards for this phase)
3. Runs of three or more cards (A, 2, 3)
4. Flush (all cards the same suit. There are none in this hand)5playertables61b21d8ad24cb00
Glitch236Notice that cards can score multiple times, by being in different combinations. For example, the King scores once for being part of a pair (K, K) and once for being part of a 15 (K, 2, 3). The other King can also make a 15 with the 2 and 3.6showHand61b21d8ad24cb00
Glitch236Breaking down the 9 points in the hand:
>>Two "15s" worth 2 points each (King, 2, 3 and Cut King, 2, 3) = 4 points
>>One pair (King, Cut King) worth 2 points
>>One run of 3 (Ace, 2, 3) worth 1 point per card in the run = 3 points7showHand61b21d8ad24cb00
Glitch236Your opponent scored 6 points. Do you see them?
Hint: It is all combinations of 15s. Making a "15" is worth 2 points each.8showHand61b21d8ad2ca400
Glitch236Remember at the beginning when we discarded two cards into the "crib"? It is now time to score the crib. Because your opponent was the dealer, they get the points in the crib. The cut card is also part of the crib.
The crib has 6 points. Do you see them?
Hint: Two 15s, and a Pair.
15s are worth 2 points each
Pairs are worth 2 points each9showHand61b21d8ad31ac00
Glitch236A new hand has begun, and we are back at Phase 1: Deal, discard to the crib, and cut.
You are the dealer this time, so the discarded cards will go to your crib.
You now know how hands are scored. Which cards would you discard?10myhand_wrap61b21d8ad561e00
Glitch236It is your crib, so we're going to put the 4 and Ace into it, hoping that your opponent will discard some 10's.
This also leaves you a 4 card run in your hand (7, 8, 9, 10), with a 15 as well (7, 8).
Click on the 4 and Ace to discard them.11myhand_wrap61b21d8ad595010myhand_item_19 1 myhand_item_23 1
Glitch236You are the dealer this round, so your opponent has cut the deck (6), and played the first card (3). The count is now 3, and it's your turn to play.
Click the 8 in your hand to play it. This will bring the Count to 11.1myhand61b21dafc41d011myhand_item_13 1
Glitch236Your opponent has played an 8, right after you played an 8. This counts as a pair, and your opponent scores 2 points for this pair. If you had another 8 in your hand, you could now play it, and score 6 points. Unfortunately you don't.1playertables61b21db96104b01
Glitch236The count is now 19, and we're going to try and make our opponent say "Go" because they can't play any cards.
Remember, a player can't bring the Count over 31.
Click on the 10 to play it, and bring the Count to 29. If your opponent doesn't have an Ace or a 2, they won't be able to play, and will say "Go." You will score one point for a "Go."2myhand_wrap61b21db96219311myhand_item_28 1
Glitch236Because you scored a "Go," the count is reset to 0, and it is your opponent's turn to play. They played a 9, making the Count 9. What would you play next, to score some points?1playertables61b21dd2e373101playertablecard_88727596_item_4 1
Glitch236Because you have a 9 as well, you can now play it to make a pair, and score 2 points. The count will then be 18.
Click on the 9 to play it.2myhand_wrap61b21dd2e507211myhand_item_50 1
Glitch236There is only one card left to play, your 7.
You will get one point for playing "last card," since your opponent doesn't have any cards left.
Click on the 7 to play it.1myhand_wrap61b21dd69f37911myhand_item_44 1
Glitch236We are now done with Phase 2, and are in Phase 3, where we individually count the points in our hands. Because your opponent is not the dealer, they count first. They have 6 points. Do you see them?
Hint: 2 "15s" and a pair
15s are worth 2 points each
Pairs are worth 2 points each1showHand61b21dda5bb1d00
Glitch236Your hand scored 9 points. Do you see them?
Hint: A run and some 15s. Runs are worth 1 point per card. 15s are worth 2 points each.2showHand61b21dda5c10300
Glitch236Now it's time to score the crib. You were the dealer this round, so these points are yours as well!
Remember how we put the 4 and Ace in the crib, hoping that our opponent would put some 10's in? Well, they did! Do you see the 4 points worth of 15s?3playertables61b21dda5c4ca00
Glitch236This is the final action you will take in the tutorial.
Decide which two cards you would discard, before clicking "Continue."4myhand_wrap61b21dda5e46400
Glitch236Did you choose 8 and 3?
Keeping the 4, A, K, Q means you have some 15s in your hand. And hopefully, there is a 10 cut card!
It is also your opponent's crib, and you don't want to discard anything helpful to them.
Click on the 3 and 8 to discard them. Then, watch the rest of the hand.5myhand_wrap61b21dda5e46410myhand_item_29 1 myhand_item_32 1
Glitch236You play the first card this round. What would you start with?1myhand61b21dfda286800
Glitch236The count is now 27, and your opponent cannot play without going over 31, so you get 1 point for a "Go." They will play the first card once the Count is reset to 0.1playertables61b21e0ec5b1a00
Glitch236It's Phase 3 again, where we score our hands!
Your opponent was the dealer, so you score your hand first. You have 4 points. Do you see them?1playertables61b21e15a0b6900
Glitch236Where are the 8 points in your opponent's hand? This is a tricky one.
Do you see the 15s? Remember, they're worth 2 points each.
Hint: There's also a flush. Even though the cut card doesn't match, your opponent has 4 spades in their hand. A flush is worth 4 points.2playertables61b21e15a11e900
Glitch236Do you see the 5 points in your opponent's crib?
Hint: 15, run3playertables61b21e15a16b300
Glitch236And a new hand begins again!
This is the end of the tutorial.
Remember the three phases:4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment61b21e15a37f100
Glitch2361. Deal, discard to the crib, and cut card
2. Play your hand against your opponent
3. Score your hands individually, as well as the crib
Also, remember the general ways you can score points:5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment61b21e15a37f100
Glitch236Phase 2:
Bringing the Count to 15 or 31 (2 points)
Scoring a "Go" and "Last Card" (1 point)
Making pairs and runs (varies)
Phase 3:
Making 15s, pairs, runs, and flushes. Also, if a Jack in your hand matches the suit of the cut card, that's worth 1 point as well! (It's called "the right Jack.")6archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment61b21e15a37f100
