Guile is a medieval memory card game for 2 players. You will play as either [blue]*the noble King Arthur[/blue]* or [red]*the nefarious Sir Mordred,[/red]* and the Knights of the Round Table are your instruments of influence.
Who will hold sway in Camelot? And who will hold sway on the morrow? Only time will tell...1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerBefore we begin, please be aware that the game (not just the tutorial) only works on computers, not phones or tablets.
Like most tutorials, this tutorial is best experienced on a computer anyway.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerIn [red]*Guile*[/red], your chosen knights will advance your schemes as you trace the web of subterfuge and manipulate it to your own ends.
The victor will *wield the most influence* when each knight's loyalties are revealed.3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerTo start things off, you need to choose what faction you will play as.
*Click on King Arthur at the top!*4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment010
NekonyancerEach round of Guile is split into three phases.
[red]*Phase 1:*[/red] players draft influence cards.
[blue]*Phase 2:*[/blue] players assign influence cards to knights.
[green]*Phase 3:*[/green] players swap the knights' influence cards.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62618799946c500
Nekonyancer[blue]*Phase 1*[/blue]
Each player has drawn [red]four influence cards.[/red] *There are ten cards in all: 3 1s, 3 2s, 2 3s, and 2 4s.*
We have to choose one to keep. The rest will be passed to our opponent.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62618799946c500card_9 6 card_2 6 card_1 6 card_8 6
Nekonyancer*Click on the 4 card to select it.*
*Then click on "Pass Cards" at the top!*3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62618799946c510passcard 18 card_9 17
Nekonyancer*[red]The 4 we selected remained in our hand.[/red]* The other three cards were given to our opponent, and we got his three in return.
This pattern will continue until all cards are drafted.
*Take the 1 card next!*1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment626187a7b2d8810passcard 18 card_9 6 card_3 17
NekonyancerDid you notice the dagger sticking out of [blue]*this 3 card?[/blue]* Daggers can serve as a tiebreakers later on.
*Take the 3/dagger card!*1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment626187b2a3cc410passcard 18 card_8 17
NekonyancerAlright, we have our four influence cards. *That's the end of Phase 1.*1card_5626187d1088cb00
NekonyancerNext, look at the setup on the left side of the screen. These are the Knights of the Round Table.
[blue]The blue knights (Gawain, Lancelot, Palamedes, Kay) belong to King Arthur (you).[/blue]
[red]The red knights (Galahad, Bedivere, Ector, Tristan) belong to our Mordred (our opponent).[/red]2card_5626187d1088cb01knightcard_1 7 knightcard_3 7 knightcard_5 7 knightcard_7 7 knightcard_2 6 knightcard_4 6 knightcard_6 6 knightcard_8 6
NekonyancerIt's time for [blue]*Phase 2*[/blue], in which we place our four influence cards onto our four knights. Our opponent will do the same with his own cards.3card_5626187d1088cb00
NekonyancerUnfortunately, this part of the tutorial is buggy, so BGA will do this part for you.
We're putting our 1 card on Gawain, 2 on Lancelot, 4 on Palamedes, and 3/dagger on Kay.4card_3626187d1088cb00placecard 19 knightcard_1 17 knightcard_3 18 knightcard_5 20 knightcard_7 19
NekonyancerOkay, it's time for *Phase 3!*
*[red]The shield token*[/red] marks *the Knight Errant*, whose owner will have to take an action involving him. Right now the token is on Sir Gawain, so that means it's our turn!1knightcard_1162618846c300600knightcard_11 6
NekonyancerOn your turn, you have two options:
1. *Peek* at the Knight Errant's influence card.
2. *Swap* the Knight Errant's influence card with another knight's card. We can swap with anyone - friend or foe!2cardplaced_162618846c300600
NekonyancerRemember, we put a 1 influence card on Sir Gawain in Phase 2. Let's swap his card with Sir Galahad's!
*Click on Sir Gawain, then on Sir Galahad, then on "Swap" at the top!*3cardplaced_162618846c300610swap 19 cardplaced_1 17 cardplaced_2 18
Nekonyancer[red]*The shield token*[/red] was passed clockwise, so Galahad is now the Knight Errant, and our opponent has to do an action with him.
*[blue]The sword in the middle of the table[/blue]* is pointing toward Sir Gawain, indicating that he was the *first* knight errant!1knightcard_116261885897fc600knightcard_9 7 knightcard_11 6
NekonyancerOur opponent peeked at Galahad's card. He knows that we put a 1 there!1cardplaced_26261885bbda1000
Nekonyancer*[red]The shield token*[/red] will be passed around like this for *two* complete revolutions. That means each knight will act *twice.* After that, everyone's cards will be revealed. *We need to have the highest influence total to win the round!*2knightcard_116261885bbda1000knightcard_11 6
NekonyancerLancelot is the Knight Errant now. Remember, we put a 2 card on Lancelot earlier, which is a low card. Maybe Sir Ector has a higher card?
*Swap his card with Sir Ector!*3cardplaced_36261885bbda1010swap 19 cardplaced_3 17 cardplaced_6 18
NekonyancerHmm. Our opponent swapped Bedivere's card with Lancelot's, which we had taken from Sir Ector. It must be a good card if he wanted it back!1cardplaced_4626188718a4d800
NekonyancerPalamedes is the *Knight Errant* now. If memory serves, there's a 4 card on him. We certainly don't want to swap that with our opponent.
We'll peek at it anyway to basically pass our turn.
Normally, you'd click on "Reveal" at the top, but click on continue here.2cardplaced_5626188718a4d800
NekonyancerWe completed one revolution, and Sir Gawain is the knight errant again.
*[blue]The sword in the middle[/blue]* flipped over to the side with coins to indicate that we're on the second revolution.
At the end of the second revolution, everyone's cards will be revealed! I'll just skip ahead to that...1knightcard_9626188f84bef500
NekonyancerOkay! All the cards have been revealed, and we can count up points.
Looks like both sides have *exactly 9 points!*
In that case, the *tiebreaker* is whoever has the *single highest value card!* Both of us have a 4 though.
The second tiebreaker is the card with the *dagger,* which is us, so we won the round!1mordred6261892a4e46e01
NekonyancerEach game of Guile is a *Best-of-3*, so we have to win another round to beat our opponent and establish our dominance over the Round Table and Camelot!2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6261892a4e46e00
Nekonyancer[blue]*I hope you enjoyed this tutorial for Guile!*[/blue]
